At the end of the year, productivity drops as we count down the days until the start of the holidays. Entrepreneur Sean Kelly shares 7 tips for making the most of the year.

The days are getting shorter, the air is getting colder. The year is coming to an end, and many are already not working at full capacity. However, leaders know that the end of December is the time for a decisive leap into a new, successful year.

1. Remember what goals you set for yourself a year ago

Some are hesitant to return to last year’s goals. We are afraid to discover the lack of progress and are sure that the realization of failure will prevent us from moving on. We reason like this: “Even if something is wrong, I will fix it next year.” This approach is bad for business. The fourth quarter of the year is the time to check how things are with last year’s goals. In three months, a lot can be completed, accelerated and corrected in order to start planning for the next year.

It is impossible to run a distance at high speed if you have been standing still for several months

The last quarter is the warm-up necessary for successful work at the beginning of next year. In business, as in running, it is impossible to run a distance at high speed if you have been standing still for several months. Working on last year’s goals for even one week will increase your productivity in January.

2. Set goals for the next year

Don’t put off planning for New Year’s Eve or early January. It is better to think about the goals for the next year in the fall, so that you have time to get used to them and adjust them.

It is convenient to formulate personal goals in the 5-4-3-2-1 format:

• 5 things to do

• 4 things to stop doing

• 3 new habits,

• 2 people you can look up to

• 1 new belief.

3. Start working towards your goals in December

Perhaps you are starting the year cheerfully and actively. However, something goes wrong, and by the end of January you are again living as before. Start working on your goals in December. So you give yourself time for mistakes, have time to correct them by the New Year and will not feel guilty.

4. Let yourself relax before the New Year

At the end of December, plan a couple of days (or better, a week) that you will devote to taking care of yourself. Batteries need to be recharged before running a 365-day marathon. It is not necessary to take a vacation — pay attention to health:

• eat alkaline foods (all diseases develop in an acidic environment),

• wash your hands thoroughly,

• sleep more

• take vitamin C.

5. Make Healthy Choices

New Year holidays are the time when we eat mostly junk food and drink more alcoholic beverages. Try to plan your holidays in such a way that you do not gain extra pounds and do not lie on the couch most of the time. Make a promise to yourself that this year you will poison your body less: it will thank you with good health and high productivity.

6.Reset internal clock

At the end of the year there is not enough sunlight. This leads to lower energy levels and a bad mood. One way to make up for the shortfall is to start work later so you can get a good night’s sleep and walk while it’s light outside.

7. Pay attention to your personal life

Remember what the holidays are for. In order to be with loved ones and give them time and care, which are not enough on weekdays. It is important to strike a balance between work and personal life. Just as your day depends on how you spend your morning, your year depends on how you spend the first days of it. Try to start the year on a positive note.
