2019/2020 flu season in Poland

February and the beginning of March are usually the peak cases of flu. And this is also the case this season. From the beginning of February, 605 Poles fell ill with the flu. By February 22, over 4 hospital referrals.

According to the National Institute of Hygiene, as many as 15 people died from influenza in February.

As we reported last week, one of the victims was a 9-year-old girl from the Silesian Voivodeship. It was the first time in years that a patient had died from influenza at such a young age.

Due to the flu, some schools had to be closed, e.g. in the Lubelskie Voivodeship. Many hospitals have also restricted visiting opportunities due to the risk of spreading the flu.

In the previous 2018/2019 flu season, 3,7 million cases and suspicions of influenza were recorded. 143 people died then – the most in five years.

Flu symptoms and complications

At first, flu can be mistaken for a cold, so it’s important to know what the symptoms are. First of all, the flu is more violent – feeling unwell literally cuts you off your feet. In addition, there are:
